“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith” 2 Timothy 4:7 (KJV)
One of our own,
Sgt. David J. Hart,
died in Balad, Iraq on January 8, 2008 of wounds sustained in combat
operations in Samarra, Iraq, north of Baghdad.
David was 22 years-old and proudly served in the U.S. Army with the 2nd
Battalion, 327th Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne
Division (Air Assault) out of Ft. Campbell, KY.
Two of David's fellow soldiers were also killed: Pfc. Ivan E.
Merlo, 19, of California and Pfc. Phillip J. Pannier, 20, of Illinois. Please be praying for God’s arms of comfort and strength to surround all of these families in the days ahead: David’s wife, Nicole Hart; his father, YWAM missionary Jack Hart; his mother, Cherie Hart; his sister and brother, Sarah & Daniel Hart; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ramiro & Ruth Gonzalez, the Merlo family, the Pannier family and all of the extended family members.
"David Hart was a very unique young man, especially in our current youth culture. David's heart for the Lord was evident from the time I met him, when he was about 12 years old. He had such a dry, witty sense of humor that kept everyone laughing, but also at ease, because he included everyone in his circle. He never failed to honor his Lord, whether being comical or working hard on a mission’s trip, or major ministry production. David was the kind or person that made all around him feel important, as he never demanded center stage, for he enjoyed others being honored more than himself. I'm sure that is only one of the reasons why his dear wife Nicole was drawn to him and loved him deeply. He brought that same selfless love and desire into his marriage, and even into the Army, and the way he treated his men. I know that when we lose someone we love dearly, that we can tend to exaggerate their life's giftings and behavior; but with David, I don't believe anyone could, or would need to exaggerate. He was and is the real deal. As a Pastor for over 30 years, I've experienced every kind of character and personality, and I am blessed to say, David Hart touched my life, and the life of this church family more powerfully than anyone twice his age ever has. I will truly look forward to seeing David again alongside our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, when it is my time to say goodbye here, and hello there!" Missing and appreciating Sgt. David Hart, Pastor Stan Taylor Senior Pastor, Osborne Neighborhood Church
